In 2012 at the ripe age of 16, I began my journey in the world of welding at a mom & pop shop in Leominster Massachusetts. Sweeping the floors, fetching tools, & listening in on client conversations. I didn’t know it, but I was being baptized into a fascinating realm of alien jargon, bright lights I shouldn’t look at, and endless possibilities for growth.

Leominster Micro Welding, Established in 1972, quickly became my second home. Under the wing of founder George Berube, the Godfather of Micro Welding, I gained a precious foundation of TIG welding that holds strong and true. Learning how the metal behaves and moves, and how to manipulate it – became a wondrous way for me to navigate the waters of the trade. Specializing in Tool and Die repair, I learned the ins and outs of manufacturing and plastic injection molding. With an understanding of how things were made, and how my tools worked, I gained perspective on how to build and repair even the trickiest of parts with the tightest tolerances.

Welding under magnification, or Micro Welding, gave me special insight into the art of welding that craftsmen dream of. Seeing fine edges, subtleties, and the puddle dance at such high intensity allowed me an immense control of my welds; putting them EXACTLY where they need to be, and creating the perfect beads for any application.

As my skills and passion for the trade remained in overdrive, I began to utilize the more advanced welding machines we had on site, Microscopic Laser Welders. These amazing machines allow the use of welding-rod as small as human hair, unimaginable precision, and the ability to lay beads unseen by the human eye. What a gift.

Under the wing of Steve Berube, son of the late George Berube, I excelled – Embarking on an adventure into the most challenging work the industry has to offer. Alongside my welding skills, managing the daily shop activity had become second nature. Finding extreme value in customer relations, and helping others with my unique skills, I found myself fully engulfed in the business.

After long years of honing my skills as a technician and a manager, my entrepreneurial spirit couldn’t help but burst at the seams of my being. With a drive and hunger fueled by the beginning of my beautiful and growing family, I set out into the world flying my own flag.

In 2023, Vella Welding was born. That year I completed a dream job, the fabrication of Casey Park Skatepark in Auburn NY. With high hopes and unwavering determination, I ventured onward into uncharted territory. As many know, dreams and reality take time to align, and I was no exception. Shortly after completion of my first solo gig, faced with financial struggle, and a hunger for growth, I made a tough decision to reset, re-coop, and re-evaluate. In March 2023 I accepted an opportunity to develop my fabrication skills at nationally renowned – Process Cooling Systems. Boy did my world take a turn.

Thrown into the fire, I was exposed to a new world of metal manipulation; massive 5-ton cranes swinging giant stainless-steel tanks bigger than my truck, single pass stainless steel MIG welds lasting over an hour, a shear that shook the earth with each stroke, I was in awe. By the grace of God, yet again, I found myself under the wing of the best in a new industry, I was a sponge; learning new tactics, tools, and techniques – I had so many questions.

After 7 months of intensive hands-on learning – pipe welding, fabricating, assembling, insulating, and servicing Process Cooling systems, I had acquired a beautiful new perspective. Carrying the knowledge and skills I gained with pride, I was ready to move on.
